As the summer season peaks, some of your farmers market favorites are headed out of season (while others are finally making a return). Here’s what we recommend buying this weekend.
Apples
Though we tend to categorize apples as a fall fruit, the early varieties coming back in stock now are perfectly tart and crisp, making them ideal for summer salads. We recommend buying a bushel for your next Warm Farro Bowl, we've got the recipe ready for you in the CHEF iQ App.
Cabbages
Essential for summer slaws, cabbage is also delicious when cut into wedges and seared on the grill. For even better barbecuing, use a whole head to make our easy Sauerkraut recipe, a classic topping for brats or hot dogs. Pro tip: Skip the grill, sear your sausages right in your Smart Cooker.
Cucumbers
This summertime favorite is packed with vitamins to keep you hydrated and refreshed through the warmer weather. We’re loving them in our bright and summery Greek Quinoa Salad, a perfect healthy lunch for a late summer afternoon.
Peaches
Aside from the orchard itself, the farmers market is just about the only place you’ll find ripe, juicy peaches. At their peak, peaches are best eaten out of hand, but if you’re lucky enough to find a full stock of them this weekend, we highly recommend testing out our simple and quick Peach Crumble recipe.
Tomatoes
This versatile fruit (yes, fruit) is one of summer’s great gifts, and you’re sure to find several varieties of heirlooms at your local market. Slice them thick to make our Caprese Grilled Cheese, or stock up on cherry tomatoes to create a delicious summer Panzanella Salad.
