Bastille Day Dishes

Jul 14, 2021

Happy Bastille Day! This French national holiday commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, which was a major turning point in the French Revolution. Over in the U.S., we like to indulge our Francophile side and cook our favorite French food, especially summery dishes!

Inaugurate your celebrations with Brie with Fig Compote, a wheel of creamy soft-rind French cheese. It’s “baked” in the Smart Cooker and topped with sweet jammy figs for the ultimate starter. Served with soft baguette slices or crisp crackers, it’s the perfect way to kick off your French meal.

Niçoise Salad hearkens to the south of France, and the fishing port town of Nice where this salad originated. Potatoes, hard-cooked eggs, and green beans (cleverly all cooked together in the Smart Cooker), oil-packed tuna, cherry tomatoes, and Niçoise olives are the classic combo. Dress it in a Dijon vinaigrette for a light and sweet bite.

There are so many versions of the Provençal classic Ratatouille, and a variety of ways to serve it. Our take sautés and simmers zucchini, eggplant, bell peppers, and tomatoes with tons of garlic and basil.

Crème Brulée, the famous silky custard with a crackly burnt sugar crust, makes the perfect dessert for your French feast. Get festive by garnishing with raspberries and blueberries, representing the colors of the French flag.
