5 Fun Fall Festivities

Oct 15, 2021

Autumn is a great time to get outside for fall fun and then enjoy some cool weather cooking using your Smart Cooker. Here are some great ways to celebrate the season.

Apple Picking
After a fantastic day of apple picking, use the bounty in dishes both savory and sweet. An appetizer like Maple Apple Walnut Baked Brie  will warm you up on a crisp night, and apples add a touch of sweetness to Seared Pork Chops with Apples and Shallots. For dessert, how about Bourbon Brown Sugar Apple Crumble, Pear and Apple Crisp, or Apple Fritters? Or, save some fruit for breakfast and make some tasty Apple Butter to spread on toasted bread and biscuits.

Tailgates
Whether you are at a football game or a concert, tailgating is all part of the fun! Make some dishes ahead in your Smart Cooker™ to take with you. If your car has an outlet, you can even reheat them in the Smart Cooker™. Whip up Baked Beans and Beef Chili, and cook Tortilla Chips to top it off. For go-to game-day favorites, try Sausage and Peppers and Honey Sriracha Wings. To keep yourselves toasty on the sidelines, pour some Gourmet Hot Chocolate  into a thermos—and spike it for the adults in the crowd!

Corn Mazes
Corn mazes and harvest festivals are quintessential fall pastimes. Hop on a hay ride, drink some spiced cider, and pick up tons of end-of-season sweet corn. Use it in our Mexican Street Corn Salad as an amazingly flavorful side dish that you will keep coming back to. Corn is also featured in our one-pot Shrimp Boil, Chicken Tortilla Soup, and Shrimp and Corn Risotto.

Parades
Enjoy all the spectacular parades and cultural events during Hispanic Heritage Month, which goes through October 15. Then come home and have a feast inspired by the cuisines of Central and South America and the Caribbean. Check out these delicious dishes from all around the Hispanic world: Tostones with Garlic Aioli, Fish Pozole, Black Bean Soup, Tres Leches Cake, Carnitas Tacos, Churro BitesPernil, Cuban Style Beans, Carne Guisada, Chimichurri SauceMexican Stuffed Peppers, and Chicken and Cheese Tamales

Pumpkin Carving
Carving pumpkins is a creative way to celebrate fall with friends and family. While you are selecting the perfect carving pumpkin, make sure to pick up other edible gourds to enjoy at the table! Grab some butternut squash and try our Creamy Butternut Squash Pasta, Butternut Squash Soup, Farro with Butternut Squash and Kale, and Vegan Thai Butternut Squash Soup. Shop for some beautiful Kabocha squash and give these recipes a try: Coconut Curry Kabocha Soup or Soy Braised Short Ribs with Squash. If you can’t get to the pumpkin patch, use pumpkin puree from your pantry to make some oh-so-smooth and spreadable Pumpkin Butter!
